bryan renaud...![]() BRYAN is a junior at North Central College in Naperville, IL. He is constantly watching movies, and, according to his friends, he judges them far too harshly. He is a part-time actor, and has recently appeared in multiple productions at the college, including Forever Plaid, The Wedding Singer, Quake, and Phantom of the Opera. He, along with Emily, writes for Acid Reflux Comedy Troupe, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. He also appears in the upcoming film, Never Have I Ever.
the interview![]() 1. Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times.
Moulin Rouge!. I've seen that more than 100 times, I'd bet. 2. Name a movie that you've seen multiple times in the theater. I don't do this often, because I'm poor, but I remember seeing Super 8, Across the Universe, and Sweeney Todd all multiple times. 3. Name an actor/actress that would make you more inclined to see a movie. Nicole Kidman. She never makes a movie without having good reason...except maybe Just Go With It. Even Bewitched and The Stepford Wives have reasons for enjoyment. In my opinion, she is the best working actress. 4. Name an actor/actress that would make you less likely to see a movie. Where do I even begin? Angelina Jolie, Adam Sandler, Miley Cyrus... 5. Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see. Blergh. That's a loaded question. I'm going to go with foreign movies in general. I don't want to hear any bullshit where "you don't like to read subtitles because then you can't watch the movie wahhhh". They put the words on the screen, so that you can do both. It's a great system. Some of my favorite foreign films are [Rec], Pan's Labyrinth, and The Orphanage. 6. What was the last movie you saw at a Drive-In? I actually think it might have been the first Pirates of the Carribean. It's been a while. Hopefully that will change this summer! 7. Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven't yet gotten around to it. Yech. Another loaded question. The Godfather, The King's Speech, Crash, A Beautiful Mind, Schindler's List, The Green Mile... 8. Name a movie that you can quote from. "I am serious. and don't call me shirley. " - airplane!
![]() 9. Ever walked out of a movie? Once. Disaster Movie. The problem was that when we walked...we snuck into the theatre next door, which happened to be playing Mamma Mia!. Needless to say, I walked out of two movies in one day. 10. Name a movie that made you cry in the theater. I actually don't think this has ever happened, but I probably got closest with Toy Story 3. Thank god I watched Marley and Me on DVD. 11. Popcorn? Contrary to the name of this site, I never get popcorn...and if I do, I definitely don't get extra butter. However, I'd like to think that our site title pertains to every other aspect of my life - where I add butter to EVERYTHING. 12. How often do you go to the movies (as opposed to renting them or watching them at home)? I'll typically see about one movie per month in the theatre. I'll watch at home unless it's something I'm dying to see. 13. What's the last movie you saw in the theater? X-Men: First Class. Review is posted. 14. What's your favorite/preferred genre of movie? I'll watch anything, but I have special affections for Oscar-baity dramas and gritty horror pictures. And when they're both (Silence of the Lambs, Misery, The Others), I typically wet myself. 15. What's the first movie you remember seeing in the theater? I honestly have no idea. I know I saw a Star Wars marathon at a young age, but I know we saw kids movies all the time as well. I remember being deeply offended by Antz. 16. What movie do you wish you had never seen? Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I'm not just saying that, either - I loved the first one, and own it on DVD. I can sit back and enjoy a mindless, fun movie. The second one, though, was just mindless, and is one of a few movies that I get angry from just thinking about. 17. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed? Definitely this one. 18. What is the scariest movie you've seen? The movies that scared me the most when watching them were The Descent, Frozen, and Paranormal Activity. 19. What is the funniest movie you've seen? I recently ROFLed my way through Bridesmaids, (review HERE) but I also love classics like Airplane!, Top Secret, Knocked Up... 20. What would be your ultimate dream team for a film? ANOTHER loaded question. You are a filthy temptress. I'd say that it would be directed by Baz Luhrmann, starring Nicole Kidman, Sean Penn, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, James Franco, Colin Firth, Zooey Deschanel, Laura Linney, Julianne Moore, Tina Fey, and Kathy Bates. Music by Michael Giacchino. | emily schmidt...![]() EMILY is a senior at North Central College in Naperville, IL. A film fanatic since she was little, she watches as many movies as she can and loves the classics as much as current films. In her free time, the English and Theatre double major is usually seen acting in shows or writing excessive amounts of papers. Her favorite writing experiences, though, come in the hours spent writing sketches for Acid Reflux Comedy Troupe with Bryan--including the highly praised Twilight the Musical. She hopes to eventually take her much loved but not so much sought out skills and continue on to graduate school in hopes of eventually becoming a college professor.
the interview![]() 1. What is your favorite film?
This is way too easy. Silence of the Lambs is not only terrifying, but it also explores deep, subversive issues beyond those of most other horror films. And the acting in it is amazing. Seriously, have two words ("Hello Clarice") ever been creepier? 2. Least favorite film? I have too many to say for sure, but I could only sit through half of Leap Year in theaters before leaving, so I'm going with that one. 3. What's your favorite comedy? Once again, there's no definitive answer for me on this one. I can quote Young Frankenstein religiously, though, so that has to mean something, right? 4. Name your favorite drama. Other than Silence of the Lambs, I will never turn down the opportunity to watch The Hours. Three fantastic actresses and a brilliant score=an Oscar movie that exceeded its critical acclaim. 5. What's your favorite horror film? Though I somehow didn't like it the first time I saw it (granted, I was about ten years old and terrified), I now LOVE The Shining. Honorable mention to [Rec], Misery, and The Mist. 6. What's your favorite animated feature? While I love Disney classics like Beauty and the Beast, I bawl like a pregnant woman watching a Mother's Day Hallmark commercial every time I watch Up. Even just listening to the fantastic score by Michael Giacchino can make my eyes water because I can picture that tragically beautiful montage near the film's beginning. 7. Name your favorite musical. Without a doubt, Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! After my first viewing, I watched it every day for two weeks... 8. What's your favorite foreign film? Life is Beautiful is a must see, just bring tissues. If you can make it through that movie without crying, you are heartless. Or a Nazi. 9. What's your favorite adaptation? I love Jane Austen and NEVER like movie adaptations over books, but I actually prefer Emma Thompson's adaptation of Sense and Sensibility to the actual novel. 10. Film that is your guilty pleasure? I haven't seen it in years, and I know it's probably horrible now, but Miss Congeniality will always hold a soft spot in my heart. Plus, I will never be able to stop quoting it. " i am in a dress, I have gel in my hair, I haven't slept all night, I'm starved, and I'm armed! Don't mess with me! "
